Description

~ Whether at our 255-acre outdoor learning center, or any of our off-site locations, IslandWood invites children and adults alike to discover a new way of seeing nature, themselves, and one another. In doing so, each person comes to understand their ability to change the world for the better. ~

Over a decade ago, IslandWood planted a seed. Nestled there, a world of possibility prepared to sprout, grow, and mature. It was rooted in a belief that the natural world holds the power to educate and inspire not only the way we live, but the way we see. By gaining a new awareness-of nature, ourselves, and one another-we realize our true potential and our ability to chart a course to a better world.

Position Overview

Cities matter because they represent our greatest hope for long-term survival, not only for humans but for all species.

The Urban Environmental Education (UEE) program prepares educators to work with urban youth and communities to build thriving, healthy and sustainable places to live.

Our UEE graduates enter the workforce understanding the ‘nature' of the city with urban-based approaches to stewardship, place-based learning, and environmental action. Course work, practice, and reflection build the capacity of our graduates to integrate environmental leadership with social justice so that everyone plays a part in improving city environments.

Additional Information

Scholarships up to $10,000 for students in the Class of 2018! We have bolstered our scholarship funds to support students who need financial support. Additional scholarship dollars are earmarked specifically for diversity enrichment.

The IslandWood/University of Washington program in Education for Environment and Community begins in late August. The IslandWood/Antioch University Seattle program begins in July.
