Description

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the world's leading conservation organization, seeks a Senior Development Officer, Foundations in our office in Washington, DC. In collaboration with Foundation Relations team, identifies, cultivates, solicits, and manages the stewardship of foundation donors and prospects, working toward achieving World Wildlife Fund's annual foundation fundraising goal of $20M+.

Responsibilities

 

  1. Writes, edits and coordinates concept notes and proposals, ensuring compliance with foundation interests and guidelines and promoting coordination across programs, program operations, and other foundation relations and development staff. Coordinates with Program Operations to develop budgets and budget narratives to submit with concept notes and proposals.
  2. Coordinates stewardship for grants in assigned portfolio, working with Program and Program Operations staff to develop required reports and updates, including ensuring compliance with donor requirements and guidelines.
  3. In close partnership with Foundation Relations and Program staff, takes responsibility for raising funds in relevant program areas, and develops fundraising and cultivation strategies for assigned prospects and donors. Implements and manages strategies toward the successful management of portfolio, and contributes to the development of departmental and high-level donor strategies.
  4. Coordinates preparation of research and briefing materials for executive, program, and/or other development staff. Makes cultivation and solicitation visits and calls to foundation prospects, including accompanying program staff.
  5. Monitors trends in giving and integrates findings into fundraising strategies. Meets regularly with assigned programs and keeps abreast of programmatic developments for application in fundraising strategies and donor relations. Advises program staff on cultivation strategies for foundation donors. Researches prospects, develops cultivation and solicitation strategies for assigned portfolio.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Knowledge of conservation/environmental issues is preferred.
  • International experience preferred. Six years of proven success with foundation, corporate, or government cultivation and grant proposal writing or equivalent sophisticated persuasive writing required.
  • Experience with donor/CRM databases is a plus. Knowledge of another language is a plus. Occasional travel (domestic or international) may be required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including writing and editing
  • Excellent organizational ability, ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, standard development practices and techniques, donor cultivation, donor relationship management, proposal and report writing, and prospect research
  • Ability to be adaptable, flexible, and responsive
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Comfortable reviewing complex budgets and logical frameworks or metrics matrices
  • Intercultural communication skills
  • Collaborative team player
  • Demonstrated interest in environmental policy and wildlife/wildlands conservation issues
