Blue Zones Project, a nation-wide community well-being initiative, was brought to Oregon by Cambia Health Foundation in support of Oregon Healthiest State. Our mission/goal/focus is to help make healthy choices easier through environmental, social and policy changes.

Position Overview

In 2015, Klamath Falls became Oregon’s first Blue Zones demonstration community. Now, Blue Zones Project is expanding to your community and we are looking for a Community Program Manager to lead the well-being transformation. The Community Program Manager will work hand-in-hand with leadership teams established in Grants Pass, and manage a local team of dedicated colleagues to support the strategic planning and successful execution of Blue Zones Project, as measured by the following milestones:

  • Approval and execution of a community wide well-being improvement work plan, referred to as a Blueprint.
  • Achievement of community certification metrics through the engagement of key sectors:
    • Restaurants
    • Grocery stores
    • Schools
    • Worksites
    • Community members
    • Local government
    • Civic leaders
    • Faith-based organizations
  • Adoption and execution of community policies and projects.
  • Improvement in Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index scores.
  • Other local well-being improvement metrics identified during throughout the Project.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a high degree of knowledge of Blue Zone Project program, processes, benefits and expected outcomes.
  • Hire and manage the local Blue Zones Project community team to support Blue Zones Project implementation.
  • Assist in the recruitment of community leaders to serve on committees, who advise, help execute, and oversee the Project.
  • Manage the relationship with Blue Zones Project committee members to keep them continually apprised and engaged in progress toward community engagement and well-being improvement.
  • Manage the local staff and coordinate ongoing strategies and training to ensure team and individual goals are met.
  • Assist in the development and management of a Blueprint that will lead the community to Blue Zones Project certification and achieve long-term sustainability of Project’s mission and goals.
  • Develop positive working relationships and collaborate with community leaders (government, schools, non-profits, employers, health care organizations) to encourage participation, build upon best practices, and influence the adoption of recommended policy and environmental change.
  • Manage the action plan to achieve Community Policy pillar milestones.
  • Track and monitor progress and outcome of policy changes, organizations and leaders engaged in the projects/initiatives, and assist with data collection and reporting of overall Project outcomes.
  • Represent Blue Zones Project at meetings, community events and speaking engagements to build awareness and encourage participation.
  • Manage to the budget and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Assist as needed with capacity-building and budget management.
  • Review and provide timely feedback on all communications materials related to the Project.
  • Represent the community at meetings with Oregon Healthiest State, National and State team, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Masters preferred).
  • 10+ years’ experience in leading successful government and/or community organizing campaigns/projects, or comparable private sector initiatives.
  • Health Care/Wellness experience preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in building coalition between various community stakeholders from public, private and non-profit sectors.
  • Successful track record of managing diverse resources, including paid staff and volunteers, in complex projects that are on-time and at/under budget.
  • Experience in team management and development.
  • Strong relationships and positive reputation within demonstration community.

Specific Skills:

  • Ability to lead a team of direct reports and community volunteers.
  • Adept at working with all levels of government, non-profit organizations, schools and employers/businesses to align complex communities around a common campaign for improved well-being.
  • Experienced in driving policy changes from analysis through adoption.
  • Strong written/oral communication skills.
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects and key stakeholders simultaneously
  • Ability to multi-task and deliver under pressure from various stakeholders.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with key partners.
  • Ability to represent the company with partners, the public, and media outlets.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
