Position Overview

The Instructor/Visiting Assistant Professor is to teach graduate courses in the Advanced Inquiry Program (AIP) and the Global Field Program (GFP) on topics such as Conservation Science & Community, Ecology, Evolution, Inquiry; perform service with Project Dragonfly in the Biology Department to work with a creative university team of faculty and staff at Project Dragonfly to instruct graduate-level online and/or hybrid courses offered through Miami University. Courses in the AIP and GFP are designed by Project Dragonfly in collaboration with national and global partners.

Qualifications

Duties/Physical Demands:

  • Position responsibilities include course instruction and grading; coordination with program partners and part-time instructional staff to maintain high academic quality and to foster collaborative learning; course and curriculum review; and student advising.
  • In addition to academic year duties, Instructors/Visiting Assistant Professors are eligible to apply for summer Advanced Inquiry Program online instruction and Earth Expeditions field course instruction in Africa, Asia, Australia, or the Americas.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD by date of appointment in ecology, conservation biology, environmental or science education, or a related field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of student and instructional support; organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Commitment to working in a collaborative environment to support a diverse instructional team and student body.
  • For this position, Miami University will not sponsor applicants for H-1B work status.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specialized experience in a relevant area such as community-based conservation, public engagement in science, learning in formal and informal settings, sustainability, ethnoecology, or international research.
  • Experience with web-based courses and instruction.
  • Familiarity with collaborative tools with as Skype, Google apps, web conferencing, and creation of video/instructional media.
