New Eco-Fiction Novel Inspired by Rokko Mountains of Japan

Vancouver, BC: The Rokko Mountains of Japan, with plunging waterfalls, majestic mountains, tranquil streams, and verdant forests, inspired authors Kirby Record and Lucas Christopoulus, who spent years hiking and meditating in the region, to write The Mysterious Frog in the Mountains of Six Excellencies, a new eco-fiction novel published on November 5, 2014, by Moon Willow Press, Vancouver, BC. The novel calls for action to restore our connections with nature.

The Mysterious Frog blends several genres - nature essay, travel diary, Eastern and Western poetry, philosophical treatise, mythology, fantasy, fable, parody, social commentary, and even a slice of science fiction to boldly address the greatest evils of our time and the source of evil for all times.

The novel's blurring of genre lines and narrative voices are postmodern in approach, but its message is classical. Lyrical, philosophical, historical, and fanciful, the novel is an admonition to those people and forces threatening our planet with extinction. It is also filled with humor and hope for the potential goodness still residing in the collective hearts of humankind.

The "Six Excellencies" are manifest in visible forms, represented in the six sections of the book, respectively as frog (mystery), butterfly (transformation), kingfisher (self-containment), white snake (magic), red pine (wisdom), and wild boar (carnality).

The advice in the poem that closes the book is simple: "Find what you bring to this mountain within/echoes of autumn, echoes of Self." That is to say, the solution lies within you.
