Masdar City Exploring Geothermal Power

SustainableBusiness.com News

Abu Dhabi's planned zero-carbon Masdar City may receive up to half of its power from geothermal energy, according to a report in the National.

Government-owned Masdar reportedly awarded a US$1.6 million (Dh5.8m) contract to Icelandic firm Reykjavik Geothermal to begin drilling exploratory wells for what would be the first geothermal power plant in the Gulf region.

However, providing sufficient water for the geothermal system could be a challenge in the dry region.

Read the full report at the link below.

In a separate report, GulfNews.com said Masdar is looking to raise up to $600 million to complete the first construction phase of Masdar City.
