Hertz Begins Solar Installations

Rental car company Hertz Corporation (NYSE: HTZ) announced it is installing more than 2.3 megawatts (MW) of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at sixteen locations across the U.S. in the first phase of the company’s solar initiative.

Hertz has already completed construction of a 235 kW system located at Denver International Airport. This system is expected to produce 342,766 kWh of AC output and will offset approximately 650,000 pounds of CO2 annually.

By 3Q11, Hertz will complete construction of fifteen additional facilities across the United States to further reduce its energy costs and offset Hertz’s carbon footprint. Hertz is installing solar systems in facilities in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

Hertz is the largest worldwide airport general use car rental brand operating from more than 8,500 locations in 146 countries worldwide.

In November 2010, Hertz announced an agreement to offer electric cars made by Coda Automotive for rent in California. Coda is importing small electric sedans from China that are expected to be available in California by the end of 2011.
