Description
Oberlin's Environmental Studies program is about building a sustainable, just, and resilient future.
The next generation faces an unprecedented environmental crisis: remediating and adapting to climate change while developing sustainable systems to produce food, fuel, shelter, and fiber. These challenges, while daunting, also present tremendous opportunities to construct a world that is more socially just and more resilient. At Oberlin, we seek an understanding of the causes and consequences of our environmental predicaments, as well as the creative problem-solving skills to design a more sustainable relationship between humans and the rest of the natural world.
Position Overview
The Environmental Studies Program at Oberlin College invites applications for the position of Assistant Project Manager for Environmental Dashboard. This is a full-time, one-year, non-continuing grant-supported position, with the potential for renewal.
The successful candidate will assist in the management, development, and assessment of Environmental Dashboard (ED), a novel communication technology that provides community residents with environmentally and socially contextualized real-time feedback designed to promote community sustainability and resilience. More information on the project can be found at: www.EnvironmentalDashboard.org.
Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include:

- Serving as a point person for further development of content for the “Community Voices” component of the project.
- Working closely with K-12 teachers, administrators, and college faculty to develop, implement, organize, and promote educational materials that use the ED.
- Presenting and promoting ED in various contexts to organizations and communities that might be interested in replicating all or part of ED.
- Managing students who work on all aspects of the ED project, including computer science and social science students. Contexts include paid student research assistants, students taking the “Practicum in Environmental Communication”, private readings, independent research, and honors projects.
- Managing and updating the environmentaldashboard.org website
- Assisting a research team in designing, implementing, analyzing, and reporting on experiments associated with the project.
Qualifications
- We seek an individual with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience. The hire must have excellent organization and project management skills, strong analytical skills, strong communications skills (verbal, writing, and visual presentation), a high level of responsibility, demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and as a member of a collaborative team, ability to communicate effectively with diverse segments of society ranging from children, city officials, members of the business community, low-income communities, civic and political leaders, etc.
- Experience with: managing teams, teaching, curriculum development, organizing for environmental and/or social justice causes, website management, photography and graphic design, statistical analysis, advanced computer skills (experiences with hardware and computer coding are pluses).
