Position Overview

An Environmental Educator develops, implements and coordinates education programs for students from the Wayne School District in grades 1-4 and for visiting groups from the community. She/he coordinates and conducts programs for teachers and other special programs as required.

This is a part-time hourly position. Hours and days to be scheduled by supervisor and programmatic needs.

Responsibilities

  • Implement educational programs.
  • Develop curriculum and enhance lesson plans correlated to State and National Content Standards.
  • Facilitate teacher-training workshops in house and in schools.
  • Conducts Community Environmental Education programs.
  • Contribute to team effort by completing tasks on an as needed assigned basis.
  • Serve as a liaison to other programs.
  • Consults with supervisor on a regular basis to report progress on assignments, to report problems, and to resolve problems.
  • Prepares clear, technically sound, accurate and informative reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations as required by supervisor.
  • Prepares correspondence in the course of official duties.
  • Assign and supervise the work of part time and/or student workers as required.
  • Maintains essential records and files.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree, science or related area preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience as an educator.

Knowledge, skill and abilities:

  • Field knowledge of flora and fauna required. Knowledge of animal care, ecosystems and/or environmental issues preferred.
  • Skilled in written and verbal communications.
  • Be familiar with National & State Content Standards.
  • Innovative teaching techniques/strategies.
  • Ability to conduct classes outdoors under varied conditions.
  • Research and develop new programs for school groups and general public.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy/ knowledge of current educational technology.
  • Be able to travel to various facilities and present programs.
