~ Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) is an entrepreneurial nonprofit working on environmental solutions at the intersection of renewable energy and freshwater. ~
Partnerships are key to our success. We build long-term relationships with our corporate, utility and philanthropic partners by first understanding their goals and needs, and providing solutions that achieve those goals while achieving real, measurable environmental benefits.
Our team of under 20 people comprises four departments: the Renewable Energy Group (which includes the Solar 4R Schools team); the Watersheds Group (which includes the Change the Course team); the Operations Group; and the Business Development Group. The Business Development Group includes the CEO, CDO, the Director of Corporate Partnerships, and two independent contractors.
Role Overview
Under the
direction of the VP, Renewable Energy Group (REG), the Project Manager manages
a subset of BEF’s renewable energy project installations and seeks new
opportunities for innovative renewable energy deployments.
The Project Manager
works collaboratively within teams to evaluate and improve project development,
management processes and associated resources while maintaining positive partner
relationships. The Project Manager oversees the development, contracting,
construction, and monitoring of a variety of renewable energy projects, and
will develop innovative solutions to overcome renewable energy barriers.
Essential Functions
Program Operations:
- Manage
a variety of renewable energy projects and programs, including but not limited
to:
- Communication,
coordination, and relationship management with relevant project parties,
including funding partners, site host, contractors, utilities, information
technology professionals, and equipment manufacturers - Oversee
the work of contractors, suppliers and/or vendors as necessary in the course of
managing specific projects and other efforts. - Site
survey and project feasibility - Project
budgeting and bidding - Contracting
(installer and host) - Oversight
of system installation - Tax
credit and financial incentives vetting and attainment
- Oversight
of BEF’s various technology platforms with partner-vendors including:
- REG’s
Drupal-based web resources and associated energy data APIs - Energy
logging devices from various energy data monitoring providers - All
aspects of REG’s energy display kiosks
- In partnership and collaboration
with site hosts, manage operations and maintenance for existing BEF energy
projects on an as needed basis - Utilize cross-functional services,
such as marketing, contracts and administration in an effective manner - Complete other tasks as assigned by
the VP, Renewable Energy Group
Leadership:
- Work with REG staff to develop
and execute the vision for the Renewable Energy program - Develop innovative solutions to
break through renewable energy deployment barriers - Find creative approaches to
fostering market transformation towards renewable energy - Act as an Ambassador for BEF
and REG, representing the organization and program to a wide variety of
external audiences - Foster and maintain positive
relationships with a variety of constituents including funders, grantees,
utilities, contractors, and industry leaders
- A minimum of 3 years of project management experience (required)
- Bachelor's degree in a related field such as engineering, architecture or construction management with a focus on renewable energy technology or sustainable development (required)
- Direct experience managing the design and installation of energy systems (preferred)
- Experience writing construction contracts and construction specifications (preferred)
- Knowledge of photovoltaic systems design (preferred)
- Experience with energy policy or energy program implementation (preferred)
- Experience securing renewable energy focused grants (preferred)
Prerequisite Skills:
- Passion for the BEF mission, renewable energy, and innovation in the energy field
- Self motivated with an entreprenuerial spirit, able to lead projects and people and inspire others in the renewable energy community
- Desire to overcome barriers to renewable energy implementation using innovative applications of proven energy technologies, leading the way for broad adoption of clean energy
- Ability to craft grant applications using persuasive writing techniques
- Ability to demonstrate and provide examples of continuous personal development and improvement in each of the essential functions
- Ability to foster and build partnerships with a variety of stakeholders, including funders, utilities, grantees, contractors and industry leaders
- Ability to think innovatively and strategically about-and participate in-advancing the long-term goals and development of the program
- Ability to create an organizational structure for a project, utilize information management systems, and create and adhere to project completion timelines and budgets
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, including enlisting vendors, subcontractors, and other specialists to support operations and process improvement
- Technical ability to draft accurate, detailed schematics of photovoltaic systems
- Familiarity with commercial electrical systems, code compliance, and common engineering practices
- Excellent attention to detail, communication and construction documentation skills
- Proficiency with software such as Google SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office Suite and ERP systems
- Ability to embrace new challenges in a rapidly growing and changing work environment
