Position Overview
Goal Zero is looking for a Project Manager to work within our Product Development team. The ideal candidate would have extensive experience with consumer product goods as a project manager, working on various products from ideation through to launch and delivery to market.
Experience with consumer electronics, solar, battery, injection molded plastics, and related technologies used in portable power systems are a major plus. This role will include collaboration with cross-functional teams, including working with Sales, Marketing, Operations, Legal Counsel, and Manufacturing Partners.
More specifically, the Project Manager will plan, coordinate, implement and finalize projects according to the specifications and deadlines, all while keeping the project within budget. The Project Manager will be responsible for successful execution of the entire project management cycle.
The Project Manager will define the project's objectives, create schedules and implementation plans, and oversee the execution of the plan. Responsible for delivering the project according to plan, schedule and cost and will also need to coordinate with technical resources to ensure successful execution of the project. The Project Manager will need to be able to identify, assess and minimize project risks until successful project completion.
Responsibilities
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Define project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
- Creates and executes project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
- Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
- Identifies resources needed and assigns individual responsibilities.
- Manages day-to-day operational aspects of a project and scope.
- Reviews deliverables prepared by team before passing to client.
- Prepares for design reviews, stage gate and go/no-go meetings, and pother administrative document deliverables.
- Ensures project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.
- Determines appropriate revenue recognition, ensures timely and accurate invoicing, and monitors receivables for project.
- Analyzes project profitability, revenue, margins, bill rates and utilization.
- Manages project budget. Plans and tracks budgets and expenditures for cost control. Prepares cost control recommendations and scope changes for a given product or project.
- Understands basic revenue models, P/L, and cost-to-completion projections and makes decisions accordingly.
- Holds regular status meetings with project team.
- Effectively communicates relevant project information to appropriate levels of management.
- Delivers engaging, informative, well-organized presentations.
- Resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion.
- Identifies opportunities for improvement and makes constructive suggestions for change.
- Keeps track of lessons learned and shares those lessons with team members.
- Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (Engineering, Business) with 5-10 years of relevant experience.
- Project Management Certification a plus.
- 10 years relevant experience in consumer packaged goods project management and contractor management experience.
- Willingness to travel to project sites, including overseas development and manufacturing partners, to perform job responsibilities.
- Computer proficient including Microsoft Office applications and schedule management.
Physical Requirements:
- Open office environment.
- Evening and weekend work as needed.
- Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders.
- Occasionally requires lifting approximately 50 lbs as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- International and domestic travel required - approximately 10%.
