Position Overview
Idaho Fish and Game is currently seeking a Bioaide.
Date(s) Needed: December 7, 2015 - March 27, 2016 with the possibility of re-hire. January 4, 2016 - May 22, 2016 with the possibility of re-hire.
Responsibilities
- Springfield Fish Hatchery is heavily involved with rearing ESA listed Sockeye Salmon.
- If selected, the candidate will perform routine fish culture duties at Springfield Fish Hatchery.
- Picking/counting eggs, weighing fish feed and feeding fish, cleaning and caring for fish rearing vessels, maintaining grounds and equipment, and cleaning office and hatchery facilities.
- Candidates will gain experience sampling fish to collect data used in managing day to day hatchery operations (feed projections, marking, and fish health.)
- Also, the candidate may gain some experience organizing data collections using word processing, spreadsheet, and database software (Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.)
- There will be some occasional field travel and overnight stays. Some weekend work rotation will be required.
- Position will require standing and working in cold water for up to eight hours per shift; lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Working in extreme weather conditions.
- Dormitory style housing is provided on site, but not mandatory.
Qualifications
- The applicant must be able to take direction, handle responsibility and work independently.
- Some college course work in a Natural Resource/Biological Science is strongly preferred, but not mandatory.
- Candidates with applicable course work and/or previous experience will be given preference.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Compensation: $10.10/hr
