~ Established in 1988 upon the appointment of the Delaware Riverkeeper, the Delaware Riverkeeper Network (DRN) is a nonprofit grassroots membership organization. DRN's professional staff and volunteers work throughout the entire Delaware River Watershed including portions of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and New York. ~

DRN's staff and very active volunteers have a breadth of knowledge about the environment as well as expertise specific to rivers and watersheds. DRN provides effective environmental advocacy, volunteer monitoring programs, stream restoration projects and public education. In addition, DRN goes to court when necessary to ensure enforcement of environmental safety laws.

Position Overview

DRN is seeking an Administrative Assistant to provide high level support for the Delaware Riverkeeper, the Chief Executive and Advocate of the organization, and the organization's Chief Operations Officer.

Responsibilities 

  • Undertake assigned research, phone calls, event organizing, and light issue writing.
  • Organize and support speaking engagements for the Delaware Riverkeeper, including organizing trainings, meetings, and educational forums.
  • Maintain the Delaware Riverkeeper's calendar and travel schedule, coordinating arrangements on a daily basis.
  • Coordinate and set up internal and external meetings for the Delaware Riverkeeper and maintain minutes as directed.
  • Answer and respond to calls to the Delaware Riverkeeper Network office, as well as the Delaware Riverkeeper's private line.
  • Process correspondence to and from the Delaware Riverkeeper, including the drafting of selected correspondence, memoranda and reports.
  • Provide support for the preparation and submission of and reporting on Delaware Riverkeeper Network funding requests including drafting of selected correspondence and reports.
  • Assist with the Delaware Riverkeeper Network Board communications, creating and maintaining Board meeting minutes and materials, organizing and supporting Board meetings.
  • Coordinate special administrative projects, as directed by the Delaware Riverkeeper and the organization's COO.
  • Performance of administrative and secretarial tasks such as filing, copying, faxing.
  • Participate in organization fundraisers and staff activities as required. 

Other Responsibilities 

  • This position requires a limited level of travel throughout the watershed, and access to reliable transportation is essential. 
  • Some evening and weekend work required. 

Qualifications 

  • Candidate should possess strong communication and organizational skills, competence in Microsoft Office, Google Calendar and Internet research, and be interested and willing to undertake all levels of administrative, secretarial, program, and both basic and high level support tasks that will be asked of them.
  • Candidates should have an appropriate level degree or work experience, be highly organized, be mature, very environmentally aware, hard-working, dedicated and reliable. 
  • The ideal candidate must be able to: work both independently and collaboratively; anticipate basic and high level needs; identify steps necessary to accomplish assigned tasks; and move projects forward to successful completion in support of and on behalf of the Delaware Riverkeeper and COO.
  • This is not a program position nor is it likely to evolve into one - this is a high level support position that will involve administrative and environmental program work but all in support of advancing the work of the Delaware Riverkeeper. 

Compensation: This is a full time position. Starting salary $32,000. Benefits include Holidays, Vacation, and Health Insurance.
