Position Overview 

Teatown Lake Reservation in Ossining, NY is seeking a bilingual Science Education Coordinator to design, develop and deliver classroom science lessons and ecology based field experiences for middle and high school students, and to coordinate environmental education outreach efforts in local communities.

The coordinator develops relationships and communicates with teachers and school administrators, community organizations and partners. The Science Education Coordinator also works with the education team to provide environmental education programs for all ages, including school groups, and adult workshops.

This position requires an outgoing, energetic person who will further Teatown's mission to inspire the community to lifelong environmental stewardship. Ideal candidates should have a background in education (K-12) and a strong foundation in curriculum development and natural science.

Exempt, grant funded two-year position has the possibility of becoming permanent. Some weekends and evenings are required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Design, develop and deliver classroom science lessons and ecology based field experiences for middle and high school students.
  • Facilitate hands-on experiential learning for school groups, occasional weekend public programs, and after school programs for underserved communities both on and off-site.
  • Assist with development of bilingual (Spanish) passive interpretation, including displays, exhibits, posters, brochures, and online multimedia.
  • Work with the education team and conservation scientists to promote, deliver and evaluate programs.
  • Assist with educational aspects of seasonal program events.
  • Other reasonably related responsibilities as assigned. 

Qualifications 

Position Requirements:  

  • Bachelor's Degree required or Master's Degree (strongly preferred) in natural sciences or education.
  • Commitment to environmental stewardship, ecological literacy and education.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a diversified audience - Spanish language proficiency required; connections to local Hispanic communities strongly encouraged.
  • Curriculum development experience - 1-3 years working in a formal or informal education setting.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time in order to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including word processing, illustrated presentations and spreadsheets.
  • Full time position involving occasional weekend and evening hours. 

Compensation: Competitive salary consistent with the staffing of a non-profit organization and commensurate with experience and skills. Paid vacation, personal leave and holidays.
