Description
~ The Discovery Program at Camp Allen provides "hands on" educational experiences that enhance classroom learning. The experiences are integrated into a complete program that helps participants gain a well-rounded understanding of current issues, environmental respect, history, and human relationships. ~
In the spring of 1990 the Discovery Program, an outdoor and environmental education program, was conceived. The Discovery Program currently provides experiential learning for over 5,000 students and adults annually. Our goal is to continue growing and serving students of all ages and backgrounds who are excited about learning in the outdoors.
In an effort to provide the ideal program for each group, several elements (length of stay, student needs, requirements, class blocks, etc) are determined cooperatively by the classroom teachers and Discovery Instructors. These tailored Discovery Program sessions range from one-day programs with six hours of instruction to four-day programs with 32 hours of instruction.
In addition to the sessions offered for students at the Camp Allen facility, the Discovery Program conducts teacher workshops, outreach programs to students in the classroom and short, interpretive programs for groups that hold weekend retreats at Camp Allen.
