Position Overview

The Southern Environmental Law Center is seeking a digital communications manager to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity to join an organization that is successfully addressing some of the most important and challenging environmental issues facing the Southeast and the nation.

The digital communications manager will be responsible for implementing the organization's digital communications, including SELC's online news feed and social media platforms.

Working closely with the director of program communications, director of marketing, and digital design and marketing manager, this person will develop digital strategies that engage our audiences, advance our programmatic work, and pioneer new ways of using communications to achieve our organizational goals.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Act as Managing Editor for SELC's online news feed. Manage editorial calendar and production schedule, coordinate writing submissions and act as editor for all posts, write posts on regular basis, and assess effectiveness of news feed by tracking performance metrics. This includes working closely with the program communications and marketing teams and attorneys to develop and vet content.
  • Oversee SELC's presence on all social media platforms, starting primarily with Facebook and Twitter but also including channels like Google+, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Instagram, as well as monitoring emerging channels. Moderate feedback on these platforms and monitor performance with key metrics. Work with marketing and program communications teams to develop new ways of using social media to reach our audiences.
  • Assist digital design and marketing manager in developing and implementing digital communications plans that utilize multiple channels (digital advertising and SEO, social media campaigns, multimedia content). Stay current on new trends in communications and technologies.

Qualifications

We are seeking someone with a minimum five years of demonstrated experience in digital marketing or communications, content development, and social media, as well as excellent academic credentials.

Our ideal candidate has the following qualities:

  • Excellent communicator and writer with the ability to translate complex topics into compelling stories for various audiences, ideally with experience contributing to and editing a blog or news site
  • Track record using various digital media strategies, and professional experience managing various social media platforms
  • Highly organized with strong project management skills and ability to balance and prioritize several initiatives
  • Strong strategic sense with ability to understand diverse range of work across the organization
  • A team player with the ability to work collaboratively - someone who inspires strong collaboration but also takes initiative when working independently
  • Understanding of the technical aspects of web and digital functionality and familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite

Compensation: SELC offers salaries competitive with leading national environmental non-profits, and an excellent benefits package.
