Postion Overview
The
Environmental Sustainability Advisor develops and manages projects to reduce
Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s (D-H) environmental footprint.
This position provides
leadership and technical assistance in the drive to engage D-H staff in
reducing the organization’s ecological impacts, natural resource consumption
and greenhouse gas emissions. The ES Advisor brings experience, best practices
and progress measurement to D-H and affiliates.
Responsibilities
- Devises and executes strategies
to coordinate and contribute to sustainability programs such as the
challenge areas encompassed in the Healthier Hospitals Initiative. Collaborate with staff in the Engineering,
Facilities Management, Food Services, Housekeeping, Purchasing, Safety and
clinical departments to strive for measurably greener chemicals, leaner
energy, healthier food, less waste, shorter trips, greener buildings and
smarter purchasing, etc. - Raises general staff awareness
of, and enlist support in reducing D-H’s environmental footprint. Performs outreach to generate and
harness enthusiasm around sustainability issues. - Investigates and educates the
organization with regard to new sustainability technologies and
process. Positions D-H
favorably for eligibility of grants and incentives. - Works with the Communications
& Marketing group to design and implement communication strategies,
write articles, deliver presentations, and create posters and signage. - Gathers and analyzes data,
performs audits and uses other methods to monitor and measure D-H’s
consumption of resources and generation of waste and emissions. Identify
opportunities for resource conservation, waste minimization and toxicity
reduction. - Develops tracking and reporting
processes for monitoring progress against program objectives. - Leads training, education and
outreach programs.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree with three
years of experience performing environmental sustainability work within an
organization required; Master’s degree preferred. - Excellent writing, speaking and
presenting skills required. - Demonstrated strength of
interpersonal skills. - Professional experience with
one or more of the following subject areas desired: carbon accounting,
life cycle analysis, environmentally preferable purchasing, green
building, transportation demand management, energy conservation, water
conservation, waste prevention, systems analysis, communications or
marketing. - Familiarity with healthcare
delivery or administration also desired. - Proficiency with Microsoft
Office applications required.
