Position Overview 

The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Marin County Department of Public Works are announcing a recruitment for the position of Engineering Technician I. There is one full-time vacancy in the Waste Management Division.

The Engineering Technician I will be assigned to our Waste Management Division and is responsible for assisting in the implementation of various zero waste and recycling programs. Programs include bulb and battery recycling, school education programs, household hazardous waste and used oil, construction and demolition debris and safe pharmaceutical disposal. 

Responsibilities  

  • Primary responsibilities include assisting in the preparation of solid and hazardous waste grant applications, reports and surveys.
  • In addition, the Engineering Technician I will perform general office work in support of the Waste Management Division of the Department of Public Works.
  • These duties include tracking legislation, fielding and responding to questions from the public regarding complaints in service, maintaining website and maintaining County office recycling programs. 

Qualifications  

  • The ideal candidate will possess excellent writing and analytical skills to help implement progressive zero waste and recycling programs.
  • In addition, the ideal candidate will have familiarity with AB 939, SB 1016 and other state solid waste legislation that affects local municipalities. 
  • The ideal candidate will be customer-focused with superior conflict resolution and communication skills (both oral and written), proficient with technology for record keeping, conducting surveys and creating reports, organized with an ability to provide accurate information in a timely manner, and will exhibit a passion for zero waste and recycling programs.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience analyzing and evaluating alternatives and making sound recommendations, able to complete projects with minimal supervision and thrive in a team environment working well with colleagues and strategic partners. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Typically, academic course work in plane geometry, trigonometry, algebra, and surveying which would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and ability requirements listed in the class specification.
  • Formal education and experience in a field related to environmental science is highly desired. 

Special Requirements: 

  • Must meet all medical, training and respiratory protection requirements as outlined in the OSHA "Asbestos" Standards for the Construction Industry.
  • Facial hair that may interfere with use of a respirator is not permitted unless an alternative respiration system is available and approved by the department.  

Compensation: Salary is $4,090 - $4,844 per month.
