Position Overview 

ESA's Southern California Cultural Resources Group is seeking a part-time Architectural Historian. The position will primarily consist of field surveys, archival research, and report preparation.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience with architectural terminology, determinations of eligibility, and impact assessments, and the ability to meet product deadlines and budgetary constraints. Candidates must also possess strong technical writing skills, attention to detail, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team. 

Qualifications 

Position requirements include: 

  • Master's degree in Architectural History, History, Historic Preservation, or related field plus a minimum of two years experience, or a Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of five years experience
  • Experience in Southern California and the Greater Los Angeles area
  • Experience with CEQA, NHPA, and the Secretary of Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties
  • Experience with Caltrans environmental document requirements a plus
  • Local availability for field surveys
  • Occasional out-of-town travel
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong photography skills
