Senior Engineer, HydroelectricTurbines

Andritz Hydro has been operating in the hydraulic power generation sector for more than 170 years. Special application pumps and turbo generators are further fields of activity.  

Responsibilities 

As a member of the Turbine Mechanical Design team and in collaboration with other senior engineers at Andritz Hydro, the chosen candidate will be in charge of the following: 

• Define and update design methods and mechanical calculations for the Francis, Kaplan or propeller turbine groups in order to optimize the installed product quality and costs; 
• Validate the calculation methods (constraints and deformations) and technical specifications according to industry practice and existing codes; 
• Supervise, train and support turbine design engineers and designers; 
• Participate in the technical knowledge evaluation of engineers and drafters and in the training program; 
• Manage the development, maintenance and validation of design tools; 
• Regarding the design review process: validate engineering plans, participate in design reviews, follow-up on actions following the reviews; 
• Organize, manage and participate in the root cause analysis process (RCA); 
• Define and participate in the mechanical research and development of Francis, Kaplan and propeller turbines; and
• Support product definition and technical risk assessment during the proposal stage. 

Qualifications 

• University diploma in mechanical engineering with more than 15 years of experience in mechanical design and high power hydroelectric turbine engineering projects; 
• Experience in powerhouse technical problem solving; 
• Knowledge of spreadsheet programs and Microsoft tools (Excel, Word, etc.); 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; 
• Bilingual - French and English spoken and written fluently (preferred); 
• Teaching skills are an asset; and
• Manufacturing and installation experience are an asset.
