Nature Center Manager

Working state-wide in Delaware and the surrounding region, we operate four sites where people experience nature in unique hands-on ways reaching thousands of visitors each year with a budget over $3 million, 34 core staff, over 100 hourly and seasonal staff and over 1,000 volunteers.

Position Overview 

We are seeking candidates for the Nature Center Manager position. This role leads and manages Abbott's Mill Nature Center (AMNC) as one of the key sites where visitors connect with nature with unique, authentic hands-on experiences. 

Responsibilities  

• Implement the Delaware Nature Society's (DNS) strategic vision and goals working to integrate specific strategies and tactics that meet the needs of the community and targeted audience at Abbott's Mill Nature Center.
• Oversees management of 473 acres of preserves and facilities. Develops community and financial support.
• Promotes Abbott's Mill Nature Center as the face of Delaware Nature Society in Kent and Sussex counties.

Qualifications 

• Master's degree in biology, natural history related field or related experience.
• 3-5 years administrative and teaching experience.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Ability to work effectively and productively, independently and as part of a team.
• Strong verbal and writing skills.
• Valid drivers license and ability to drive a passenger van.
• Availability to work some evenings and weekends as needed. 

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience, health, life, dental and retirement plans provided. On-site housing is available.
