Position Overview
We are actively seeking a creative environmental education professional to provide educational leadership in our programs.

Responsibilities
The Education Specialist will have a primary role coordinating the Winter Ecology Program, including training, mentoring, and modeling effective in-school environmental education for 3-4 entry level environmental educators who will be teaching in approximately 20 of Christodora's NYC public school partners (mostly Title 1 schools).
The Education Specialist will also provide educational leadership and coordination of:
- Christodora's afterschool weekend program, the New Youth Conservationists, currently located at the NY Botanical Garden.
- Christodora's Summer Ecology Program, a field based, science research summer program at Yale's Great Mountain Forest in CT for 2-3 weeks.
Qualifications
A successful applicant will:
- Be an educator/teacher with a background in the environmental/ecological sciences and seasoned in providing a purposefully engaging, inquiry based approach in an urban classroom.
- Be passionate about sparking an interest in the natural sciences and motivating youth from underserved communities to be active environmental stewards.
- Be able to set measurable goals that support and strengthen the way Christodora's curricula positively involves students with interactive learning in environmental science, while supporting the NYS Common Core, NYC Scope and Sequence, and the Next Generation Science Standards.
- Have applicable experiences in both the indoor and outdoor classrooms, easily build rapport with students, and provide Christodora educators with the necessary resources and skills to reach a broad, diverse, and inclusive environment.
- Know the developmental needs of junior high and senior high youth and be able to mentor educators in best youth development practices.
Requirements:
- Applicants must demonstrate an ability to be creative lesson writers.
- A bachelor's degree in a related discipline is required.
- A master's degree is preferable.
- This position requires travel via public transportation throughout the city to schools and occasional visits to program locations in remote areas north of the city.
- Applicants must be able to work flexible schedules.
- Background checks required.
Compensation: Salary is negotiable and based on experience.
