Position Overview

Barr Engineering Co. is seeking a data management technician to join its Duluth office to undertake challenging, deadline-driven work on projects involving the management, processing, and reporting of complex environmental data.

Responsibilities

  • This position involves working primarily in the environmental database, EQuIS, with a heavy emphasis in Microsoft Excel
  • Work may include:
  1. Entering data into the EQuIS database
  2. Manually checking data thoroughly against original documents
  3. Producing charts and reports
  4. Performing advanced formulas and functions in Microsoft Excel
  5. Following processes set by data management department
  6. Discussing data and projects with other data management staff
  • This position requires travel to the Minneapolis office frequently during the training period and intermittently throughout the year
  • NOTE: Candidates may be required to demonstrate data entry and Microsoft Excel proficiency

Qualifications 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in biology, environmental studies/sciences, geology, chemistry, or a related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including charts, functions, macros, and pivot tables
  • Exceptional deductive reasoning skills and attention to detail
  • Strong mathematical and scientific skills
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and with teams to meet client needs and deadlines
  • A flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedules to meet project commitments
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience with the following applications: EQuIS, Access, and/or gINT
  • 1+ year professional experience working with databases and/or Microsoft Excel Knowledge of chemistry and/or geology
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations
