Seasonal Farm Assistant

Position Overview 

The Seasonal Farm Assistant will provide manual labor on our Ecosystem Farm, which  produces vegetables for a Saturday Farmer's Market as well as educational programming for the public. The schedule for this position includes three full week days per week and one half-day on Saturdays.

This is a part-time seasonal position.  Individuals must be available to work a minimum 30 hours per week.  We are looking for a hard-working assistant with a strong interest in organic gardening/farming and an enthusiasm for making sustainably grown produce accessible to the community.

Responsibilities 

Farm tasks include: 

• Field preparation
• Vegetable and flower growing from seeds, seedlings, to transplanting
• Harvesting
• Post-harvest handling and packaging
• Weeding
• Irrigation set-up
• Farmer's market sales
• Tours of the farm for interested public 

Qualifications 

Job Requirements: 

• Desire to learn more about and work in sustainable agriculture
• Good communication skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently, as well as with others
• Physical ability to:  lift up to 50 pounds, work in extreme weather conditions, kneel, squat, and walk over several acres

Desired Qualifications and Experience: 

• Experience in environmental or agricultural education
• 2-3 seasons of farm or gardening experience
• Ability to work the entire growing season
• Competence with small machinery use and maintenance
• Farmers' market or retail sales experience
• Some building or construction skillsCompensation: $9-13/hour (depending on skills and experience), plus informal on-the-job training
