Position Overview

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is currently seeking a Rangeland Management Specialist.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for operating range conservation services for Eastern Navajo Agency's rangeland management program.
  • Develops and implements resources and use plans.
  • Conducts field surveys.
  • Interprets a variety of rangeland management related legislative requirements, ensuring proper implementation of policy guidelines.
  • Provides guidance and direction to Indian landowners and permittees/lessees.

Qualifications

  • Experience and Education Requirements: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Professional and Scientific Positions and Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-0454, Rangeland Management Series).
  • Basic Requirements for All Grades: Applicants who meet the basic requirements are qualified for the GS-5 entry grade level.
  • Degree: range management; or a related discipline that included at least 42 semester hours in a combination of the plant, animal, and soil sciences, and natural resources management, as follows:

Range Management:

  • At least 18 semester hours of course work in range management, including courses in such areas as basic principles of range management, range plants, range ecology, range inventories and studies, range improvements, and ranch or rangeland planning.

Directly Related Plant, Animal, and Soil Sciences:

  • At least 15 semester hours of directly related courses in the plant, animal, and soil sciences, including at least one course in each of these 3 scientific areas, i.e., plant, animal, and soil sciences.
  • Courses in such areas as plant taxonomy, plant physiology, plant ecology, animal nutrition, livestock production, and soil morphology or soil classification are acceptable.

Related Resource Management Studies:

  • At least 9 semester hours of course work in related resource management subjects, including courses in such areas as wildlife management, watershed management, natural resource or agricultural economics, forestry, agronomy, forages, and outdoor recreation management.

OR

  • Combination of education and experience -- at least 42 semester hours of course work in the combination of plant, animal, and soil sciences and natural resources management shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Indian Preference:

Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (Title 25, USC, Section 472). Verification of Form BIA-4432 must be submitted with the application if claiming Indian Preference. Indian Preference eligibles that are not currently employed with the Federal service will be appointed under the Excepted Service Appointment Authority Schedule A, 213.3112(A)(7).

The majority of individuals, who accept reemployment with the Federal government within 5 years of receiving the VSIP amount, must repay the gross amount of the separation pay prior to reemployment.

Compensation: $31,628.00 to $75,376.00 / Per Year

  • GS-11: $57,982 - $75,376 Per Annum
  • GS-9: $47,923 - $62,297 Per Annum
  • GS-7: $39,179 - $50,932 Per Annum
  • GS-5: $31,628 - $41,122 Per Annum
