Position Overview
VHB has an immediate need for an Environmental Planner in its Hauppauge, New York office. The successful candidate will have 3 to 5+ years of professional experience in consulting in the environmental field.
Responsibilities
- Prepare environmental impact statements and assessments, planning and zoning studies, wetlands and coastal permits, and visual impact analyses
- Prepare State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation
- Assist clients with the administration of SEQRA and NEPA processes
- Conduct environmental planning analyses
- Independently perform research and prepare written technical reports
- Coordinate and communicate with internal project team members
Qualifications
- Successful candidate will have 3 to 5+ years of environmental planning experience
- BS degree in environmental science, geology, urban planning, civil engineering, or a related field
- Graduate degree and certification (AICP, LEED® Professional, etc.) a plus
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Must demonstrate an ability in collaborative problem solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates
- Thorough understanding of technical environmental impact analysis methods
- Experience with SEQRA/NEPA, land use regulations and wetland permitting
- Experience in economic impact analysis a plus (RIMS II, IMPLAN, etc.)
- Must be self-motivated with attention to detail
- Ability to create maps with GIS and/or CAD
