~ The Mohonk Preserve is a dynamic organization with responsibility for managing and protecting more than 8,000 acres of the northern Shawangunk Mountains in Ulster County, NY.  ~

The Preserve has four integrated programs - Conservation Science, Education, Land Stewardship, and Land Protection, and is a regional model for large-scale conservation planning.

We have an annual budget of $3.6 million, 35 year-round staff and over 350 volunteers. We also have a diverse support base of nearly 14,000 individual members and supporters. And, our Visitor Center is an award-winning green design building surrounded by nature trails!

Position Overview 

We have a fast paced, results-driven Development department which includes Membership, Individual Giving, Volunteer Programs and Events. 

This position reports directly to the Deputy Director of Membership & Development.  We are seeking an energetic collaborator that has a minimum of 3 years' experience managing events to execute the Preserve's event calendar, which consists of 10 to 12 major events per year of varying size and scope.

Qualifications

This position demands a multitude of administrative abilities. Requirements include:

  • Project management & event planning experience, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Strong planning & time management skills, taking initiative, and successfully meeting deadlines;
  • Exemplary written, communication & people skills; 
  • Superior computer skills including Microsoft Office at a minimum;
  • Database experience including: Raiser's Edge, Access and/or similar databases. Proficiency in Raiser's Edge preferred;
  • Working knowledge of desktop publishing and publication production;
  • The ability to work independently and as a team member; and
  • Comfort with a high level of social interaction with a wide range of individuals and groups.

Note: A critical attribute is the ability to manage all aspects of relationships with existing and new vendors for events, including but not limited to caterers, banquet facilities, restaurants, consultants, printers, entertainment.   


Additional requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree;
  • A valid driver's license;
  • Availability for some weekend and evening work;  
  • The successful candidate will have experience working with Board members and understand the importance of building and stewarding good relationships with volunteers, donors and community members; 
  • A knowledge and appreciation of the mission of the Mohonk Preserve is desired;  
  • Experience in a nonprofit setting is desired; and 
  • Candidates with experience in event planning, development/fundraising, alumni relations and/or hospitality are preferred. 

Compensation: Salary is mid $30s/year based on experience. Excellent work environment with full benefits package and access privileges to the lands of Mohonk Preserve and the Mohonk Mountain House resort.
