Position Overview

The Pace Energy and Climate Center is seeking an Executive Director to head its unique program as an energy teaching and policy center giving students hands on experience in handling current significant energy challenges and opportunities.

The Center mission is to protect the earth's environment through solutions that transform the ways society supplies and consumes energy so as to mitigate climate change, minimize pollution, enhance society's resilience against unavoidable climate change, and education our law students with respect thereto.

• The Executive Director will lead the Center's experienced and multi-disciplinary team of energy and environmental lawyers, economists, scientists, energy policy analysts, climate change specialists and its students.
• The Executive Director will be integrally involved in the environmental program at Pace Law School teaching JD. LLM & SJD students and serving as the central point of contact between the Center, and the broader university.
• The Executive Director will be based at the Pace Law School campus in White Plains, New York, with some travel required (including occasional trips to Albany, New York City and throughout the Northeast).

Responsibilities

• The Executive Director is responsible for the Center's strategic direction, administration, funding, and the supervision of its professional and support staff and students
• He/She will be responsible for enhancing the Center's visibility and recognition at the national, regional and state levels, and representing the Center at energy conferences
• Leading the Center's involvement in proceedings in New York and throughout the Northeast, including cases before state agencies involving energy efficiency, renewable energy, and policies affecting the promotion of clean distributed generation
• Engaging in regional efforts to promote more robust and better designed markets for increased penetration of energy efficiency and clean energy use
• Securing the necessary funding to sustain the Center's activities, through public and private research contracts and foundation grants
• The Executive Director is charged with raising all the Center's operating funds
• Center founder, Professor Richard Ottinger, is faculty advisor to the Center and is available to assist the Executive Director
• He also conducts international clean energy work for the Center and utilizes JD and graduate students in his research, publication and representational work for the Center
• The Executive Director position allows for the possibility of the appointment as a "Professor of Law for Designated Project or Service" at Pace Law School
• In this capacity, the Executive Director will interact with the law school community, teaching energy law courses and working closely with the environmental law faculty and staff

Qualifications

• A qualified candidate for Executive Director will have a law degree with teaching experience, scholarship dealing with relevant issues, substantial professional energy policy expertise, and administration and fund raising experience
• Because the Center is deeply engaged in the policymaking process, preferred candidates would have a demonstrated record of achievement in state, regional, and national energy policy arenas
• The Center is particularly interested in candidates with experience participating in regulatory processes in energy / environmental policy decision making, such as utility rate cases, the proceedings of an energy or environmental regulatory body, or similar experience in a formal policy setting
• Demonstrated executive leadership skills, including administration, management, and finance are essential, and a deep understanding of the economics, science, and engineering will be viewed as important assets
• In addition, knowledge of the operation of energy markets and an understanding of energy / environmental economics are required for this position

Compensation: Salary is very competitive and commensurate with demonstration of a high level of experience.
