Description

Do you want to contribute to a more sustainable built environment while developing your skills in research, analysis, writing, and editing? BuildingGreen, Inc, publisher of Environmental Building News, GreenSpec, LEEDuser, and BuildingGreen.com, is looking for short-term, part-time, unpaid help on some special editorial projects.

BuildingGreen, located in Brattleboro, VT, publishes authoritative information on sustainable building design and construction for building professionals throughout North America.

Position Overview

We are looking for an intern who can jump right in with updating our one-of-a-kind database of green building products.

Due to the nature of this unpaid internship, we are flexible about the timeframe-our ideal would be 20 hours/week for three months, but we can be flexible on both counts. A start date could be immediate, availability depending. This is ideally a position for working in our office, but could be done partly or entirely remotely with the right candidate.

BuildingGreen has a staff of 15 knowledgeable, dedicated employees whose work advances the cutting edge of sustainable building design and construction. The office environment is casual, yet professional. Visit both our main website and this website as well to learn more.

Responsibilities

  • In particular, we are gathering and analyzing documentation provided by product manufacturers who are working to be more transparent about the health implications of their products.
  • This is an opportunity to put yourself on the cutting edge of the movement for more disclosure of product information.
  • All the data being released requires analysis—you’ll help us with that, and learn how to separate the green from the greenwash.

Qualifications

  • Requirements include good writing and organizational skills, Internet research skills, and a strong command of the English language.
  • The ideal candidate will also have a strong drive to learn about green building strategies and products.
  • Some scientific background (specifically toxicology) is a plus, but comfort with these concepts is the main thing.

Compensation: There is the potential for paid opportunities in the future, but for the successful intern we can’t guarantee anything more than a glowing reference from an industry-leading company.
