About B Lab

B Lab is the non-profit organization which certifies and supports B Corporations in service of its mission to build a global movement to redefine success in business. As of January 1, 2014, there are 900 Certified B Corporations from 60 industries, including 30+ in Colorado, all of whom meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability (bcorporation.net). B Lab has opened a full-time 3-person office in Colorado to help serve and build the Colorado B Corp community.

Position Purpose/Mission

To build and serve the Colorado business community to create a better way to do business and to make the State of Colorado the leader in responsible business practice.

Responsibilities  

The Business Development Lead will:

• Develop and grow a large and vibrant B Corp community through active communication, partnership, and recruitment. 
• Assist companies to practice better business by measuring, comparing, and improving their social and environmental performance using the B Impact Assessment.
• Aid companies in the process of incorporation as a Colorado Benefit Corporation and help them understand the business value of baking higher purpose into their legal DNA to help ensure the company's core values remain central as they scale, bring in outside capital, plan succession, or even sell.
• Aid companies in the process of becoming a Certified B Corporation.

How: 

• Communicate: Build general B Corp awareness in Colorado region. Clearly, regularly, and actively communicate the value proposition of doing business a better way by becoming a Certified B Corp /or a Benefit Corp and by measuring what matters via the B Impact Assessment.
• Recruit companies to become Certified B Corps - Use peer-to-peer lead generation and recruitment: B Lab Colorado + HQ staff leverage local B Corp champions in certification efforts, particularly to identify prospects, to cultivate, and to close. 
• Partner: build partnerships to increase usage of the B Impact Assessment and by investors of the B Analytics platform throughout Colorado as the first step towards certification and/or incorporation. 

Position Functions: 

Recruit companies to become B Corps and Benefit Corps: engage directly with high priority companies to become Certified B Corps and Benefit Corporations.

• Build pipeline: Work with internal B Lab team and leadership of B Corps to create strong prospects for use of B Impact Assessment/B Analytics and progression towards Certified B Corp and/or Benefit Corporation status.
• Support B Lab Colorado's Community Lead to serve ‘key account' B Corps: Become a valued team member to those company's leadership teams, helping them realize value from their certification and become engaged Champions.
• Support B Lab's policy work at the state and municipal leve.l

Qualifications

Required:

• Commitment to B Lab's vision to redefine success in business.
• High energy, self-managing, entrepreneurial personality capable of working in start-up environment. 
• Relentless problem solver with collaborative style; like to "win."
• Strong relationship-building, communications, and organizational skills.
• 6+ years of experience as manager/leader in an entrepreneurial business or as director business development or account management in a fast-growth or larger company; must have direct sales experience with C-level executives.
• Strong presenter to groups both in person and on virtual media.
• Ability to work remotely and keep communication open to share wins, opportunities, challenges.
• Ability and desire to travel, largely throughout Colorado but occasionally out of state. 

Preferred: 

Industry experience in traditional Colorado sector(s) including: agriculture, aeronautics, energy, LOHAS, resource development, technology, outdoor/recreation, and tourism.

• Deep "roots" in Colorado business community and particularly in the sustainability space.
• Experience working for or with a business association.

Accountability

This posiiton reports to B Lab Colorado Director, Kim Coupounas, but is accountable to entire B Lab team.
