nonprofit energy services and training organization which is dedicated to
achieving energy efficiency in buildings in order to foster and maintain
affordable and healthy housing and communities.

Position Overview:
AEA West is seeking an Energy Engineer to join our tight-knit, talented
team of “Energy Geeks”. The candidate
must be passionate about hunting down every last BTU of savings from every project
they are involved in. If your beach

The Energy Engineer
independently conducts Energy Audits, Capital Needs Assessments, and performs
Commissioning and Retro-commisioning activities in multifamily and commercial buildings,
provides engineering analysis at both the project and program levels, designs
and manages retrofit projects, performs green building assessments, and conducts
a variety of technology and market assessments.
The Energy Engineer engages
in research, data analysis, energy modeling and report production as needed to
complete a range of project types. He or
she is expected to be a self-starter, an independent problem solver, and a
strong team-player.
Responsibilities:
The Energy Engineer may be responsible for:
-
Conducting energy audits and in-field
energy assessments, on-site diagnostics, field data collection and analysis -
Performing energy modeling and
building simulations -
Preparing energy and green building assessment
reports based on analytic findings which include detailed equipment specifications
and cost savings analysis -
Conducting technical peer review
-
Performing LEED, Green Point Rated and
HERS consulting services -
Performing commissioning and retro-commissioning
-
Performing renewable energy
feasibility assessments -
Conducting trainings both internally
and publically on energy efficiency technologies, energy auditing principles, and
energy efficient building operations -
Working on national projects to help
develop industry standards and guidelines -
Energy efficiency program design and
implementation
Note: These job
responsibilities may be revised over time to ensure the functional responsiveness
of the Energy Engineer to AEA and
Federal and California State program requirements.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering,
architecture, environmental science, construction management or other
sustainability related focus, with a demonstrated interest in energy
conservation and building science preferred -
Minimum of two years’ experience in
multifamily and/or commercial building energy engineering -
Knowledge of building systems
including lighting technologies, building envelope, mechanical systems and
combustion science
Additional Qualifications Desired
-
Knowledge and understanding of Title
24 and other building codes -
Familiarity with local, state and
federal incentive and rebate programs -
Ability to perform cost savings
analyses and fuel data analyses -
Sound technical writing skills and
experience -
Home Energy Rating Systems (HERS and
HERS II) rater certification preferred. -
Building Performance Institute (BPI)
certification preferred. -
Experience with the use of energy
modeling software a plus, i.e., EnergyPro, EneryPlus, eQUEST, DOE2 programs -
Proficiency in Microsoft software,
including Excel but also Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
