The Rainforest Alliance, an international nonprofit organization that works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. Based in New York City, with offices throughout the United States and worldwide, the Rainforest Alliance works with people whose livelihoods depend on the land, helping them transform the way they grow food, harvest wood and host travelers.
Position Overview:
The Rainforest Alliance seeks an experienced, successful development executive to lead its fundraising efforts. The successful candidate is strategic, highly entrepreneurial and a creative leader who finds new solutions to ongoing challenges, and enjoys building programs and organizations. The Vice President of Development oversees a budget of $3.5M and a full-time staff of 24 people.
Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the Executive Vice President, the Vice President of Development is responsible for all aspects of the Rainforest Alliance's fundraising efforts including individual giving, institutional giving (corporations, foundations, and bilateral and multilateral government agencies), membership, and special events.
- Working with the development team, the Vice President of Development will be responsible for increasing the Rainforest Alliance's $30 million annual raised income budget.
- The Vice President of Development will interface closely with all staff and the Board of Directors.
Qualifications:
- The Rainforest Alliance is currently in the final year of its 5-year $20 million Leapfrog fundraising campaign with $3.5 million outstanding to reach the goal. This person must have a genuine passion for conservation and the environment and be an outstanding communicator who can convey the value of Rainforest Alliance's unique business model to a variety of individual, corporate, government, and foundation funders and potential funders.
- He/she is an excellent manager and outstanding leader who sets goals and demands accountability from himself/herself and the development staff.
- The successful candidate is both a skilled strategist and an innovative tactician with the proven ability to develop and implement successful major development campaigns.
