In Dartmouth College's Environmental Studies Program (ENVS) we seek to motivate and prepare students to rise to the challenges and opportunities associated with human-environment interactions. Environmental degradation is an escalating problem from local to global scales. Training students to understand and address these environmental problems is our core mission and is why we believe that environmental studies is an essential component of a modern liberal arts education.

Position Overview:

We're offering an exciting new position to help advance practice-based learning initiatives in the Environmental Studies Program at Dartmouth College. This position cultivates and maintains mutually beneficial partnerships in the college, the region, and beyond that, enables Dartmouth students to learn by doing. The primary duty is to support on-campus courses, and secondarily, the Africa Foreign Studies Program (AFSP).

This position is a 12-month term position. The initial appointment is for one year, renewable for up to five years contingent upon satisfactory job performance. Beyond five years renewal is contingent upon continued funding.

Skills and Knowledge 

  • Outgoing personality
  • Flexibility and sense of humor
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders in the college and the broader community
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving and administrative skills. Detail oriented
  • Ability to work independently, combined with a willingness to interact effectively with a wide range of individuals and groups
  • Ability to handle multiple sets of responsibilities and set appropriate priorities
  • Ability to maintain project websites 

Minimum Experience 

  • Experience in participatory, community-based learning
  • Experience building and/or maintaining connections between a college or university and community groups, agencies and/or NGO's preferred
  • Experience working with college students
  • Some knowledge of the systems and operations within Dartmouth College preferred 

Minimum Education 

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required
  • Master's degree in a relevant field preferred
