Description

Clean Power Research builds innovative software products that power the renewable energy industry. We have our roots in the research and publications of founder, Thomas Hoff, Ph.D. With a solar and utility background from PG&E stretching back to the 1980's, Tom left Stanford University in 1997 with a Ph.D. in Engineering Economic Systems and an established passion for renewable energy and particularly photovoltaics (PV).

Clean Power Research began as a vehicle for research and consulting projects, particularly around the economics of PV. As Tom buried himself in the technical minutiae of these studies, a question from a neighbor nagged at him: What's the value of solar for me? Such a simple question, yet the work required to answer it required hours of PV output modeling, incentive and rate analysis, bill savings comparisons and environmental impact calculations.

We make it simple to understand the financial, energy and environmental impacts of renewable energy projects. Whether siting, planning or operating PV, selling energy systems or software, or managing an incentive program, Clean Power Research has your solution.

Position Overview:

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team and take on a key role in the development of a new generation of our PowerClerk® product. PowerClerk is used around the U.S. to automate and optimize the solar industry and help drive down the cost of solar.

This is a full-stack position focusing on everything from the UI (JavaScript/jQuery) to the back end (C#/MySQL). We're doing a ground-up rewrite on this new generation in order to make a quantum leap forward and grow into entirely new markets. You'll be a key coding contributor, and also work with product managers and customers to define the product and make it completely awesome.

PowerClerk is an industry-leading product with huge adoption and a great customer base; the incentives for more than half of installed solar (PV) systems in the U.S. in 2012 were processed using PowerClerk.

You'll be part of a small, highly talented and passionate engineering team in a startup-like environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build and deliver new features and products
  • Be a key, high-horsepower contributor
  • Take initiative to drive architecture, core technology and processes
  • Engage with customers to understand and address their needs
  • Serve as technical lead as appropriate
  • Mentor other engineers as appropriate

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS or MS degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience
  • Superior programmer who consistently delivers tight, finely crafted code
  • Excellent algorithmic and problem solving skills
  • Team player and great collaborator, also self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in web technologies: at least one of C# or Java, JavaScript, JQuery, MySQL.

Compensation: Clean Power Research provides competitive compensation and benefits packages.
