Description

TerraTherm is a worldwide leader in the development and implementation of in situ thermal remediation of organic contaminants in subsurface source zones. We advise on, design, build, and operate thermal remediation projects from concept to closure. 

Position Overview:

This position reports to the Electrical Engineering Discipline Lead (Willey Leung, PE) and is responsible for engineering and related activities associated with TerraTherm's in-situ thermal remediation (ISTR) projects, including supporting system design, work plan preparation, cost estimation, permitting,Level of Supervision: material and equipment procurement and fabrication, system construction, commissioning, operations and maintenance, data management and reporting.

Major Job Responsibilities:

Design Engineering

  • With the assistance of the electrical team, develop electrical systems to support ISTR efforts. Typical design efforts include preparation of electrical one-line of system up to 20MW, electrical circuit calculations, wellfield layout, protective device coordination, arc flash calculations, programming of PLC and HMIs, research of applicable national and local electrical code, and other general system analysis. Review and approval of vendor control panel arrangement and wiring diagrams.
  • Develop equipment schedules and material takeoffs; prepare requests for bids for subcontractors and material vendors. Compare bids and recommend the selection of subcontractors and material vendors. Prepare or assist with preparation of construction and equipment specifications, including means and methods.
  • Assist with preparation of cost estimates.
  • Assist with material and equipment assembly, packaging, crating and general preparation for deployment of equipment and materials to project sites.
  • Assemble and analyze historic site data, as well as operational data for proposals, reTerraThermports and other presentations.

Field Engineering

  • Perform the function of field engineer, including hands-on field installation work and/or field engineering, supervision of subcontractors, review of daily work production reports, schedule and budget. Communicate issues with project manager or construction manager and client as directed by the project manager.
  • Assist with field construction and/or site operation efforts.
  • Verify that daily production reports are maintained.
  • Perform field QA/QC to ensure construction work is performed in accordance with design specification.
  • Prepare detail drawings and perform fabrication supervision.
  • Keep project manager and client informed on design and performance issues.
  • Maintain ISTD System Monitoring Documentation.
  • Collect field operating data and monitor system operations of electrical systeLevel of Supervision:Level of Supervision:m.
  • Create and update system monitoring database, prepare data trend graphs, performance data analyses, and determine when system performance data suggests ISTD targets have been achieved.
  • Assemble and analyze operational data for periodic reports.
  • Communicate and coordinate work quality or safety concerns to the TerraTherm project manager, general manager and technology manager as necessary to ensure proper and safe completion of the project.
  • Assist the TerraTherm construction supervisor and system operators with equipment commissioning and startup, and operational troubleshooting (as necessary).

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop hands-on experience with electrical, electro-mechanical and process equipment selection, integration, fabrication, operation and trouble shooting. Demonstrate ability to train with and become familiar with electrical meters, hand tools, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Develop a strong understanding of health and safety requirements related to ISTR projects. Develop a safety first mentality and demonstrate compliance with site specific health and safety plans.
  • Always look for new and better ways to streamline the cost and performance of ISTR, capture information, and make overall improvements as learning takes place.
  • As directed, develop new methods/equipment in accordance with approved budget and scope.
  • Continue to gain knowledge on the remediation of hazardous materials by reading relevant journals and related information.
  • Travel as necessary to perform position description duties. Emphasis during the first year or so of training will be with system components, equipment fabrication and site construction. Expect up to 20% travel for periods of up to 2 to 3 weeks at one time, dependent on TerraTherm project work load.

Qualifications:

Experience Required

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor (enrolled incoming senior) / Master's degree program in Electrical Engineering, with an emphasis on Power Systems preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and AutoCAD

Education

  • 4-year degree in engineering or related discipline
  • Certification/Licensing:
  • EIT preferred
