Environment Northeast (ENE) is a leading non-profit organization at the forefront of efforts to combat global warming and promote clean energy and clean air solutions working in the Northeast, Canada and in targeted efforts at the federal level in Washington, DC and Ottawa, Canada. ENE's staff of 16 professionals is based in offices in Rockport, ME; Boston, MA; Providence, RI; Hartford, CT; and Ottawa, ON, Canada, with additional staff in Maine and the Vermont/New Hampshire area.

ENE researches, develops and advocates innovative policies that tackle the region's environmental challenges while promoting sustainable economies. ENE's Climate and Energy Analysis Center (ENE-CLEAN) serves a critical need for targeted, reliable data and policy analysis.

ENE has a unique capacity to combine a wide range of data sources, complex technical research, and economic analysis into useful information for policy makers, the media and the public. Our work is highly regarded among non-profits, business, consumers, public officials and the media and is used widely to help advance clean energy and climate solutions at the state, regional and federal levels.

Position Overview:

Environment Northeast (ENE) is seeking a Senior Policy Advocate. 

Responsibilities:

  • The Senior Policy Advocate and Director, ENE Massachusetts Office, will have a lead role advancing ENE's efforts to promote and implement energy and climate policy reforms focusing on energy efficiency, clean energy, utility and power grid policy reforms, and global warming solutions in Massachusetts and regional forums.
  • The position may also further ENE's work on developing, promoting and implementing sustainable transportation policies that reduce pollution, promote innovation and economic growth and diversify transportation fuel sources.


The position will center on ENE's Massachusetts activities including:

  • Representing ENE in regulatory proceedings and other state and regional policy forums;
  • Drafting public comments, educational documents and filings;
  • Working with partner organizations and building coalitions;
  • Advancing state sustainable energy, transportation and climate goals; and
  • Strategic program planning with appropriate ENE teams. 

Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate will have an interest in energy and environmental issues and ideally be familiar with energy policy and utility regulation.
  • Strong analytical skills and a comfort level with data analysis/interpretation are important in our work.
  • Candidates should have an interest in and facility with public speaking, expository writing, and advocacy, and be comfortable working cooperatively in a team structure while handling independent assignments.
  • Candidates should be able to work with diverse constituencies to advance policy goals in legislative, regulatory, and advisory settings and be able to assert the organization's goals in a professional and competent manner.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in sustainable energy, regulatory or sustainable transportation issues is sought.
  • A J.D. with experience in regulatory or administrative litigation proceedings is preferred but consideration will be given to exceptional candidates with advanced degrees in other fields and relevant experience who evidence a strong interest in sustainable environmental and economic policies. 

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with the selected candidate's experience and skill level. ENE offers benefits including health care coverage, dental, retirement and disability.
