Description

The Land Trust Alliance is a national conservation organization whose mission is to save the places people love by strengthening land conservation throughout America. The Alliance works with Congress to pass tax incentives and funding that help landowners to choose conservation over development.

The Alliance serves as a university for land conservation that trains the people who do the work to conserve cherished farms, forests, parks and trails. It strengthens community-based land trusts by providing workshops, online learning, research, standards, and accreditation services. The Alliance's conservation defense program helps land trusts ensure that conserved land stays protected forever. The Alliance works with the media to promote land conservation and engage more Americans in saving our most treasured places.

Position Overview:

The Database/IT Coordinator interacts with staff throughout the organization to understand their data and reporting needs and to ensure that systems are optimized to meet those needs along with providing training and support for the Alliance's systems; ensuring that information is retrievable, accessible and useful in carrying out the Alliance's mission and vision. This position also provides support for the IT infrastructure and general user support for the staff of the Alliance.

Responsibilities:

Database

  • Work with the IT Manager to ensure that information important to the Alliance is available in the database and is being utilized to its fullest
  • Assist staff with customizing the database interface to make it as user-friendly and intuitive as possible
  • Collaborate with staff to understand their data needs and desired outcomes in order to create database reports that fully achieve these goals
  • Organizing and optimize existing reports, so they are both easy to find and valuable to staff
  • Create users guides and documentation for the database and reports

General IT

  • Provide backup for the IT Manager for routine troubleshooting.
  • Provide assistance with maintenance of computers, software and network services
  • Take on special projects and research as needed
  • Provide one-on-one or group training for new personnel and others as needed (or arrange for outside trainers)

Qualifications: 

  • BA or BS in a computer-related science or field or commensurate experience
  • 2 years' experience with databases and report writing
  • Project management skills
  • Demonstrated initiative, ability to work well with others and with minimal daily supervision
  • Experience working with vendors on projects preferred
