The Natural Resources Group a division within NYC Parks & Recreation is responsible for acquisition, protection, restoration, and management of remnant and restored natural areas within the City parklands. NRG develops natural area management and restoration programs and serves as a clearinghouse for technical research.
Position Overview:
Beginning February 2013 NRG seeks a full-time Project Manager to implement ecological restoration projects primarily in the Bronx River watershed. The aim of meeting environmental and social goals including restoring native vegetation communities, controlling invasive species, enhancing habitat for aquatic life, restoring oyster reefs in the estuary, implementing the Bronx River Ecological Restoration and Watershed Plans.
The PM will be responsible for project management, coordination, permitting, planning, reporting, research, and monitoring, as well as for working with other divisions, groups and agencies. Under the Director of Wetlands Restoration, may assist with monitoring, design, and planning for wetlands and aquatic resource protection and restoration projects across NYC.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinating with other divisions to manage and oversee the construction of fish passage for fish on the Bronx River
- Managing the contracts and permitting for the design of two new fish passage projects on the Bronx River
- Implementing a grant project to construct stormwater best management practices
- Providing guidance in planning and implementing ecological restoration projects including invasive plant management in the Bronx River Corridor
- Coordinating on-going projects along the Bronx River with other partners
- Assessing restoration project performance and development of adaptive management approaches
- Preparing technical and financial presentations and reports
Qualifications:
Educational Requirements:
- A degree and full-time experience in environmental research or engineering which involves gathering, organizing and analyzing data, project management and report writing
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in environmental science, ecology, environmental engineering, landscape architecture or related field
- Strong writing and analytical skills
Knowledge of:
- Wetland, aquatic and forest ecology
- Green infrastructure
- Stormwater best management practices
Experienced:
- With GPS and ArcGIS
- Field ecology and plant identification
- Field sampling and methods
- Supervising seasonal employees, interns, or volunteers
- Ability to work under adverse conditions
- Valid NYS Driver's License
Compensation: 35 hours per week; $27.37 to $29.01 per hour.
