Position Overview:

Driscoll's recognizes the opportunity and urgency to incorporate more sustainable practices in order to remain viable as an enterprise, and has worked to integrate sustainability principles and tools in order to drive change in practices throughout the company.

The DOTA (Driscoll's of the America's) Sustainability Manager will own the strategy, process and structure for all sustainability related activity within DOTA and collaborate with the Director of Community & Environmental Initiatives and the other business units globally to create internal best practices in data management, analysis, reporting, project management and integration.

The Sustainability Manager will serve as the subject matter expert for the business unit and beyond, will drive prioritization of DOTA sustainability activity, and guide and advise DOTA leadership on key decisions while building capabilities within the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Define success for sustainability in the Americas, design and manage targets and progress, and define and manage all related reporting to internal stakeholders, customers, government, industry, or press as needed.
  • Oversee the continued development of Driscoll's sustainability data management and reporting process for DOTA, influencing strategic and functional planning and creating a best practices framework to be implemented company-wide.
  • Work with the Director of Community & Environmental Initiatives to advise and support growth into new regions outside of DOTA, challenge current processes, and set and drive aspirational target and vision.
  • Stay current on external sustainability landscape, identify best practices, trends, emerging issues, manage all reporting and regulatory requirements for DOTA, and determine most critical external standards development processes and industry efforts.
  • Participate in the public policy arena as determined by company leadership.
  • Develop and introduce a framework for sustainability-focused financial modeling to be incorporated into the capital expense process and used for sustainability specific project planning and evaluation throughout the company.
  • Work with the Director of Community & Environmental Initiatives and global leadership to develop points of alignment, ways of working and processes for sharing knowledge and expertise across business units.
  • Network, facilitate and manage related partnerships with consultants, industry, academia, and community and oversee the creation of a comprehensive communication plan for DOTA Sustainability in partnership with Director of Communications, and Marketing.
  • Work closely with Global Research, Agronomy and Applied Research in their quest to identify best practices in resource management on the farm and ensure proper grower engagement and extension.
  • Oversee all sustainability related employee engagement efforts including green team activity and training, and represent company and present at Sustainability related conferences, events, and participate in industry membership groups.
  • Allocate and oversee all DOTA resources and access to services internally and externally to support the program and manage cost center budget.
  • Manage support staff.
  • Follow Company policies and practices while representing Driscoll's in an ethical and business-like manner in all interactions with employees, governmental agencies, growers, customers, etc. 
  • Ensure the security of Driscoll's confidential and proprietary information and materials.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Studies or closely related field required.
  • 8 or more years in foreign and/or domestic sustainability related work experience required, with experience in supplier engagement, training, monitoring and/or action planning a plus.
  • Applicable training and proven achievement in the sustainability field required.
  • Proven knowledge of domestic and/or international agriculture practices and norms.
  • Strong and effective bilingual skills (English/Spanish), bi-literate skills and bi-cultural skills required.
  • Superb facilitation, project management and engagement skills necessary.  This position requires effective presentation skills, sound analytical skills, excellent inclusionary interpersonal skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and other data management systems and reporting tools also required.
  • Travel will be required (up to 25% domestic and international).
  • California driver's license and the ability to be covered under company-sponsored vehicle insurance program are also required.
  • A valid passport and the ability to travel internationally without restrictions are also required.
