Top Third Ventures designs, produces, and sells efficient cooking technologies to BoP consumers first in Kenya, then across East Africa, and eventually the developing world. Top Third Ventures was born from one simple question: Why have private companies and NGOs not succeeded in spreading efficient cook stove technology throughout the developing world? The answer is they did not know what business they were in or where. The core of the business is not social impact, appeal to donors, or the environmental benefits and reduced carbon dioxide.
Our product reduces dependency and expenditure on wood fuels by reducing wood consumption by more than 67%. In addition, we improve the lives of the women and children by limiting exposure to smoke and poisonous gases that result from inefficient combustion. Switching to our product results in 56% less carbon monoxide and 38% less particulate emissions relative to traditional cooking methods.
Top Third Ventures will change people’s lives and the environment for the better while allowing them to keep their culture and traditions intact. Our product knowledge and continuous dialogue with our customers makes that change possible. The concept, in a nutshell, is combining a product that accommodates cultures and traditions with the maximum revenue structure through carbon financing.
Position Overview:
Top Third Ventures is seeking a Chief Operations Officer (COO) to setup and oversee the product production process in Kenya. Specifically, the Top Third Ventures COO will have a great understanding and experience in solving detailed manufacturing challenges (evaluating different materials, production methods, and quality control). The COO’s responsibilities will grow to cover the setup and operation of production facilities across East Africa.
The COO requires strong leadership and organizational skills. The ideal candidate will also have a strong technical background, excellent communication ability, practical business thinking, and cross-cultural negotiation skills. Experience in managing or setting up production facilities in developing countries is a plus. The position is full-time and based out of Nairobi, Kenya with frequent travel.

Compensation: Monthly salary is EUR 3,000 gross with additional benefits through shareholding or options depending on performance. Successful applicants are expected to start in October 2012.
