Merck Forest & Farmland Center (MFFC) is a non-profit environmental education organization located on 3,160 acres of forest and farmland in the Taconic Mountains of southwestern Vermont. We offer programs and demonstrations for visitors, school groups, landowners, professional foresters and farmers, as well as high school and college internships. Forest activities include sustainable agriculture, recreation, habitat preservation, maple sugaring, timber harvests, forest roads, water control and wildlife habitat management. Farm activities include organic gardening, rare breeds of animals, rotational grazing, cover crops and alternative energy.
Position Overview:
Visitor engagement specialist will open the store daily and be responsible for sales of VC goods and cashing out of the register. Position will be responsible for maintaining inventory and restocking, organizing displays, cleaning, gardening, compiling visitor information, developing news and events communications and closing at end of day.
This position will also be responsible for engaging in conversation with visitors, recommending farm/forest activities, teaching visitors about our farm/forest products (how Merck animals are raised, how syrup is made, etc.) and promoting products, giving directions to cabins and hiking and answering questions about Merck Forest.
Qualifications:
The ability to take initiative, engage with visitors, communicate effectively with co-workers and a willingness to participate in farm/forest duties outside the Visitor Center is necessary. Prior experience in customer service and education or interpretation is greatly desired.
Full time position: Wednesday through Sunday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
