Position Overview:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Business Development Manager to join our busy North American sales team reporting to the Head of Business Development for North America. You'll be assigned some key market segments and you will be responsible for growing Trucost's business in these areas, for gaining new customers and accounts as well as the account management of some existing accounts.
This is a varied role which requires a flexible individual to work successfully independently as well as part of a regional North American team and coordinate effectively with the global team who are principally based in London. It offers the opportunity for significant travel.
Responsibilities:
- Developing the strategic approach for growing sales in your assigned market area in collaboration with the Head of Business Development for North America
- Representing Trucost at meetings with prospects, effectively recognising their needs and conveying Trucost's value proposition
- Generating leads and networking
- Following up new business opportunities and setting up meetings
- Planning and preparing presentations
- Establishing and maintaining client accounts
- Providing management with market feedback
- Ownership of a sales target
Qualifications:
Essential Skills:
- Be highly organised, and have the ability to coordinate and effectively manage close relationships with colleagues based remotely
- Be self-motivated and results oriented, with a positive, "can do" attitude
- Excellent business acumen, good negotiation skills and persuasiveness
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including confidence presenting to large groups of people and enjoy networking and meeting new people
Preferred Experience:
The ideal candidate would have some experience in a number of these areas:
- A background in business development, preferably in sustainability, and have an established network of sales contacts in North America
- A background in management consulting to large corporations, helping them understand sustainability in economic terms and embed it in their business strategies
- A good understanding of how financial markets operate and a knowledge of some of the following sustainability areas that financial institutions are involved in, such as, mainstreaming ESG integration, UNPRI, SRI, environmental fund creation, environmental risk analysis in different asset classes, sustainability solutions for banking clients.
- Knowledge of some of the following environmental issues that companies face would be preferable, such as, environmental measurement and management systems, sustainable supply chains, integrated reporting, carbon accounting and associated commercial software solutions, Life Cycle Analysis and Input-Output modeling techniques.
- Experience working with the government sector on tenders for environmental sustainability projects
- Foreign language skills, particularly Spanish and Portuguese, will be viewed favourably
