The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), a leading national nonprofit research organization based in Washington, D.C., seeks a person to direct its finance department. Position Overview:
ACEEE is seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated individual with strong analytical skills and experience in non-profit financial management. The Finance Director will be responsible for the financial management of the organization and will report to the Chief Operating Officer.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees and maintains all accounting systems, financial controls and standards;
- Oversees grant and contract management; including assurance that all monthly expenditures are allocated appropriately to respective funding sources;
- Provides strategic guidance on financial management issues and procedures;
- Supervises cash management, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Analyzes financials to assist program directors in their internal financial management;
- Works with COO and Executive Director to formulate financial policies and procedures;
- Directs financial process improvements to improve efficiency and/or effectiveness;
- Provides accurate internal monthly financial reports to project managers and executive team, organization quarterly reports, and reports to Board of Directors and funders;
- Verifies transactions and preparation of financial statements which conform in all respects to generally accepted accounting principles;
- Coordinates annual independent audit and filings with the IRS and state agencies;
- Ensures legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions;
- Supervises and mentors contracts manager and finance associate;
- Addresses miscellaneous finance issues such as liability insurance, inventory, and annual true-up of lease-related expenses.
The position is full time and will be based out of ACEEE's office in downtown Washington, D.C.
Qualifications:
- B.S. Accounting or Finance, CPA preferred.
- Experience in nonprofit accounting.
- At least 10 years of successful experience as a financial manager.
- Good theoretical knowledge of accounting concepts and practices, especially as they relate to nonprofit organizations.
- Demonstrated management abilities including staff supervision and ability to multitask.
- Experience supervising staff.
- Familiarity with government contracts and federal indirect cost rate preparation and cost allocation.
- Demonstrated strong technical skills and experience in financial reporting and analysis, forecasting, cash flow management, tax filings, and indirect cost filings.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Judgment and initiative with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Great Plains/ Dynamics preferred.
