Hanwha Solar America (HSA) is a wholly owned subsidiary based in Silicon Valley and is home to Hanwha's Advanced Research and Development Laboratory (ARDL) and strategic Business Development team (HBD).
Position Overview:
HSA is seeking an experienced PV systems director to lead the photovoltaic systems development program. HSA is interested in applicants with experience in roof-mounted and building-integrated PV systems. This is a senior level position within HSA and will report to the HBD Director and dotted line to the senior director of Product Management at Hanwha SolarOne (HSO).
Responsibilities:
- Direct the development and testing of PV kits (PV modules, inverter, software, AC and DC electrical system design, power systems, grid connection, racking and other peripheral equipment and materials, including storage solutions).
- Work in close collaboration with technical leaders within the Hanwha Solar network including the Hanwha Solar Global CTO, to coordinate and streamline the PV kits and systems development.
- Develop, test and qualify integrated system prototypes; debug components issues, integration issues, including electrical, mechanical and firmware; must take a hands-on approach in daily operations.
- Lead the development of an integrated storage and PV systems test site. Define PV systems technical and product requirements, including product specifications for residential and commercial scale applications.
- Coordinate and deliver testing plans, integration layouts, and component supplier qualification processes.
- Leverage thorough understanding of National Electrical Codes and standards, UL and ETL certification processes, CAD methodologies, electrical instrumentation, and software for creating PV system designs.
- Manage outsourcing of supplementary R&D with project partners. Stay current on industry trends and latest technologies related to PV kits and systems. Partner with HSO marketing and sales team to provide technical training and support.
- Build the PV systems team and manage its performance and deliverables.
Qualifications:
- BS or MS in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering; advance degrees preferred
- 10+ years of direct experience in working with PV systems
- Strong problem solving skills with a firm foundation in technical fundamentals
- Must be familiar with product development fundamentals, including the stage/gate approach
- Firm understanding of system design and installation cost management, quality systems and cost metrics
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; must be a strong team player
- Excellent program or project management skills and ability to multi-task
- High degree of professionalism and conduct at all times
- Demonstrated track record of delivering results
- Willingness to work long hours and under time pressure environments
- Ability to interact with senior level management within and outside the organization
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 30% of the time)
- Must be familiar with smart grid concepts and with energy storage technologies
