The Earth Care AmeriCorps Program is an 11-month professional development program for early-career professionals that provides full-time AmeriCorps positions and training for the next generation of food and public health advocates, urban farmers, educators, and non-profit leaders. Earth Care's mission is to educate and empower young people to create healthy, just and sustainable communities. We are seeking dedicated, service-minded AmeriCorps Members to begin their 11-month service in non-profits, schools, and local government.
Position Overview:
Members placed in schools will teach Earth Care's environmental education program, develop school gardens, teach kids about food, nutrition, and cooking, help promote healthy foods for school lunchrooms, and organize environmental service-learning projects in K-12 classrooms.
Members placed with community organizations will support local agriculture through farmer's markets, homelessness and hunger relief programs, food policy, land and water conservation, and community development through the City of Santa Fe.
In addition to exciting service placements, the program offers weekly professional development and team service opportunities in food
advocacy, farming/gardening, sustainable development, education, and civic engagement.
Qualifications:
These are full-time (40+ hours per week) AmeriCorps positions from September 4, 2012 - July 31, 2013. To participate in the program,
individuals must be between the ages of 18-35, have at least a high school diploma or GED, be a legal resident of the U.S., and be committed to making a difference. Please visit MyAmeriCorps.gov to make sure you qualify before applying. Spanish language skills are required for some positions.
Compensation: All positions will receive a Living Stipend (Full-time = $12,100) during their service and an educational stipend upon completion of service ($5,500) for past or future education. Full-time AmeriCorps members are also eligible for health care benefits (if not covered under another policy) and child care, as needed.
