The Just Label It (JLI) Campaign was created to advocate for the labeling of genetically engineered (GE or GMO) foods. The Campaign has brought together more than five hundred organizations to work collaboratively to educate consumers, raise awareness and advocate for GE foods labeling.
Position Overview:
The Just Label It campaign is hiring a Campaign Director. We are seeking a motivated individual who has extensive experience in leading consumer campaigns, communications, earned and social media, organizational management and executing issue and/or political campaigns. The successful candidate will be an effective team leader who is extremely well organized and adept at working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, managing staff and consultants, strategic planning, political advocacy and superb program execution.
The Board and the Strategy Committee of the Board are actively involved in developing the campaign objectives and strategy. The Campaign Director works with the board of directors to facilitate the development of a strategic plan. The Campaign Director oversees the implementation by staff and consultants of programming to assure that the objectives and plan are achieved.
Reports To: Organic Voices Action Fund Board of Directors with day to day oversight by the Chairman of the Board
Responsibilities
The Campaign Director will:
- Be responsible for all campaign activities, achieving seamless integration of all aspects of the campaign, and assuring that the campaign successfully achieves its objectives
- Regular reporting to the Board of Directors status updates and new developments
- Facilitate with the board of directors the development of the campaign political strategy
- Manage staff and consultants to develop and execute key campaign initiatives
- Manage campaign calendar
- Be responsible for administrative oversight for the Just Label It Campaign and Organic Voices including fiscal management and ensuring that JLI stays in compliance with all relevant local, state and federal laws.
- Facilitate clear and consistent communications with key stakeholders including the Board of Directors, funders, partners and key allies
- Develop and manage an interactive multi-faceted earned media strategy which is integrated into all aspects of the campaign communications including social media, web, blogs, etc.
- Develop and integrate partner strategy into the campaign strategy and plan
- Outreach and network with potential new partners
- Plan and manage activities to maintain interest and grow the JLI list including developing integrated on-line and off-line activities to educate and engage consumers
- Advance regulatory and legislative initiatives as needed
- Report on a day-to-day basis to the Board Chair
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
College degree required.
Work experience:
At least 8 years campaign experience including consumer research, messaging development, non-profit management, earned and new media and strategic planning. Demonstrated effective leader and manager.
Skills:
Strong campaign skills, including the ability to seize strategic opportunities; very well-organized; consumer research messaging and marketing skills; understand how to develop effective programs; excellent writing skills; willingness to work with, and ability to reach agreement among a wide range of people; proven ability to achieve results with an issues advocacy campaign; ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and able to multi-task without sacrificing quality of work; demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; well-honed personal interaction and communication skills; strong management skills; able to work independently.

Location: Flexible, but proximity to, or ability to easily get to Washington, DC ideal.
