IslandWood is seeking a Head of Residential School Programs. The Head of Residential School Programs provides leadership and direction in the design and implementation of IslandWood's School Overnight and School Partnership Programs. Now in its 10th year, IslandWood's unique Residential Environmental Learning program model strives to serve high need schools in the Seattle region providing 4 day, 3 night programs coupled with distinctive pre and post at-school experiences.

Position Overview:

The Head of Residential Youth Programs supervises a team of professionals that serve over 70 schools and manages a budget exceeding $1M. The Head of Residential School Programs is also a faculty member in IslandWood's Graduate Program.

Responsibilities

Residential School Programs:

  • Provide leadership for the School Overnight Program planning, implementation and quality
  • Responsible for School Overnight Program revenue goals and expense budget
  • Hire, train and supervise the School Overnight Program Coordinators assuring that they:
    ?Work collaboratively on program, scheduling and training needs
    ?Select and train seasonal contract staff
    ?Design and communicate schedules for teaching, program, and facility use
    ?Manage the day to day implementation of the programs
    ?Establish effective relationships with clients including teachers, school administrators and parents
  • Work closely with Senior Faculty in evolution of curriculum and instruction most closely touching the School Overnight Program but also including Graduate Program
  • Plan for future programs - evaluate current year's model and plan for next year

School Partnerships:

  • Provide supervision of the School Partnerships Staff to ensure that strong relationships are cultivated between School Overnight Program schools and IslandWood
  • Participate and support the development of pre and post experiences that extend the School Overnight Program experience

Graduate Program:

  • Participate in training graduate students in skills necessary to implement IslandWood Youth and Family programs
  • Act as a mentor for professional educational skills (teaching) for graduate students
  • As appropriate, teach graduate level classes and supervise graduate students' independent study projects

Organizational:

  • Provide essential support to Philanthropy and Marketing Teams
  • Capture and share compelling stories of the School Overnight Program
  • Assist with review of grant proposals and marketing materials that support the School Overnight Program

Other:

  • Represent the education team on the appropriate IslandWood committees
  • Closely monitor School Overnight Program participant numbers and demographics to ensure that we are on target to reach program goals
  • Work as a member of the IslandWood team to accomplish above tasks and those that directly impact the development of the future IslandWood
  • Communicate regularly with other environmental education organizations and centers - comparing models, etc.
  • Represent IslandWood by presenting at educational conferences
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in education, environmental education, or related fields
  • Ability to integrate creative experiential programs and work with elementary students and adults in a dynamic, respectful, rigorous, creative, and enthusiastic way
  • Minimum 5 years experience in environmental learning centers (preferably residential programs), including demonstrated leadership roles
  • Minimum 5 years of successful program and personnel management experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Outstanding customer/client service
  • Solid computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Proficiency in planning, organization and project management
  • Proficiency in curriculum design and development
  • Advanced, or Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification
  • Experience with teacher professional development, facilitation, assessment, and grant writing
  • Possess a restless pursuit for excellence in programming

Desired Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in education, environmental education, or related field
  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate
  • Greater than 5 years leadership experience in residential or nature center setting
  • Advanced, or Wilderness First Responder certification

Compensation:  IslandWood's salary and benefit package is commensurate with the field.
