The Colorado Mountain Club is organized to unite the energy, interest, and knowledge of the students, explorers, and lovers of the mountains of Colorado; collect and disseminate information regarding the Rocky Mountains on behalf of science, literature, art, and recreation; stimulate public interest in our mountain area; encourage the preservation of forests, flowers, fauna, and natural scenery; and render readily accessible the alpine attractions of this region.
Position Overview:
The development intern will work in cooperation with the Development Coordinator to meet the development goals of the Colorado Mountain Club. The focus will be on individual and corporate giving, and may include event planning, grant research and administrative duties.
Type: College credit only, part-time
Reports to: Development Coordinator
Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative support for development activities associated with foundation, individual, and corporate fundraising
- Ensure proper and timely entry of contributions and in-kind gifts into the Raiser's Edge system
- Create and distribute timely, accurate, and thoughtful gift-acknowledgement letters
- Organize fundraising aspects of special events as needed
Additional Duties May Include:
- Assist in the marketing efforts for special events
- Communicate with donors, corporations and foundations via email, postal mail and phone calls
- Assist in designing and implementing email campaigns and social media posts
- Solicit and track auction item donations and sponsorship
- Research foundation and corporate grant opportunities
- Write, edit, and compile grant applications
- Material preparation and assembly
- Complete special projects as assigned
Qualifications:
Education/Work Experience:
- Minimum of college level Junior classification; at least 1 year of previous work experience
Recommended Skills:
- Experience with PC Microsoft Windows and the software programs associated with Windows, particularly but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Database-entry skills, specifically with Raiser's Edge, is a plus
- Experience (or interest in learning about) grant writing
Compensation:
- The development intern works between 16-32 hours per week depending on desired hours; hours are flexible. Starting and ending dates are also flexible.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for special events.
- This is an unpaid internship, offering the right candidate program credit and invaluable experience in fundraising, events management, and donor communication using Raiser's Edge.
