Use your land stewardship experience to make a difference and leave a legacy of land protection for the California Central Coast. The Land Trust of Santa Cruz County is a well-funded, rapidly growing conservation organization with the mission of protecting the beauty and natural, cultural, and agricultural resources of Santa Cruz County. We are seeking an experienced person to join our team as Land Steward.
Position Overview:
Primary Responsibility: To implement the Land Trust's overall land stewardship goals by assisting the Stewardship Manager with resource management on over 3000 acres of fee and easement lands.
Responsibilities:
- Assist Stewardship Manager with writing and implementing preserve management plans.
- Conduct literature searches, field observations and coordinate studies to assess the status of natural and cultural resources.
- Prepare maps and graphics in support of preserve management activities.
- Assist Conservation Easement Steward with conservation and agricultural easement monitoring and stewardship.
- Help write and administer grants.
- Interact with growers, grazers and foresters on lands with agricultural production.
- Work with researchers, environmental educators, contractors and work crews.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in biology or related field.
- 3 or more years' experience working on conservation land stewardship, easements and project management.
- An understanding of conservation of natural, agricultural, cultural and open space resources and the role of land trusts in that effort.
- Competent in GIS and GPS, identification of native and non-native species in Santa Cruz County, stewardship practices, and infrastructure maintenance.
- Familiarity with conservation and agricultural easements.
- Physically capable of safely working long hours outdoors in any weather condition.
