Position Overview: 

The Chapter Leadership Development Specialist is a junior to mid-level position responsible for developing and administering robust, diverse programming for remote and in-person trainings for chapter leaders from 79 chapters across the country. The specialist is knowledgeable about adult learning and is responsible for conducting needs assessments, engaging stakeholders, programming dynamic events, evaluating speakers/trainers, liaising with the events team, and assessing the effectiveness of programs.

Through the chapter leadership development program, this person will work to increase the chapter network's capacity to be self-supportive nonprofit organizations that effectively represent USGBC in communities across the nation. Leadership events include regional leadership summits, the Chapter Forum at Greenbuild, the Chapter Leader Retreat, the Emerging Professionals Leadership Academy, customized chapter trainings, webcasts and others as needed.

In addition to executing USGBC's chapter leadership development program, this individual also acts as a high-level nonprofit coach for chapter leaders (i.e. serves as a trainer for the program) in areas such as board development, fund development, strategic planning, communications, and volunteer management. This person will also build and maintain strong relationships with USGBC volunteer and staff chapter leaders.

Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with this individual's supervisor, develop and oversee chapter leader education and training programs, including content development, project management and executing within budget
  • Contribute to the strategic and annual planning process for the chapter leadership development program
  • Through surveys and a well-defined feedback loop, identify ongoing chapter needs
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge about trends in adult learning, including in-person, virtual and experiential learning
  • Secure in-house and external experts to deliver trainings
  • Conduct trainings for chapter leaders on non-profit topics
  • Optimize evaluation system to ensure the effectiveness of trainings and events
  • Identify opportunities to use technology to improve delivery of USGBC's chapter education and training programs
  • Liaise with the Conferences & Events department on logistics for trainings and events
  • Provide on-site coordination for events to ensure high-quality execution
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years experience working in a dynamic office environment, preferably with a non-profit
  • Minimum BA or BS in a related field (e.g., nonprofit management, leadership or organizational development, program development, etc.)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and adhere to timelines with meticulous attention to detail
  • Knowledge of adult learning styles and ability to implement effective educational programs
  • Experience delivering group trainings in person and via web
  • Ability to handle a broad range of stakeholders with grace and diplomacy
  • Strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability for delivering high quality work
  • Proficient in all necessary MS Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Willingness to travel for project activities as needed
  • Knowledge of/proficiency in Web site, social media and e-mail/html applications a plus
  • Adaptability to new technologies and ability to learn new software applications
  • Team player with outstanding interpersonal skills
